The Documented Life Project Update

We are into week 15 in The Documented Life Project. 36 weeks to go and my journal is getting pretty fat! The beauty of having made my journal into a 3-ring binder: I can expand it with larger rings, which is what a did a few weeks ago. I may however need to add a second journal for the second half of the year.

I last posted pictures on my blog from weeks 8 and 9, so I have some catching up to do in posting both the planner pages and the weekly challenge pages. I've had quite a few requests from others in the group on how to make an art journal binder such as mine. I'm going to begin working on a tutorial and will post it in the near future. For now here are my pages from weeks 10-15. For some of those weeks I have the planner pages done but not the challenge page and for others I have the challenge page done and not the planner pages. It's just how I roll when it comes to art! Hope you enjoy them. :)
Week 10 Challenge: A list of things that make me, me.
Week 10 page 1

Week 10 page 2
I punched my holes on the wrong side of the page so I ended up with two right sides, so I just went with it and have two pages for week 10 instead of my normal page spread. This is something I like about art journaling - just going with the flow and working mistakes in instead of starting over. It pushes my perfectionism outside the comfort zone, which is a good thing. :)

Week 11

Week 11 Challenge: Put a bird on it.

Week 12 Challenge: Use magazine cut-outs

Week 13 Challenge: add someone else's art to your page.
My sister drew a doodle for me while I was visiting her.

Week 12

Week 13

Week 15 Challenge: A monochromatic page

  1. Gorgeous pages, Mary, and beautiful lettering, as usual :) Did you deliberately choose a colour scheme, or are the blues and greens your natural go-to colours?

    1. Thanks Tracy! I try to break out of my color mode, but I always seem to pick up shades of blue and green! :)

  2. Hi Mary, I'm one of your biggest DLP fans. Thanks for posting your cover, I was curious if you had painted/embellished it at all. My Moleskine has started to come apart. I'm thinking I might have to rework it eventually to something like yours. I was also curious which course you took from Hope, since she has several? Thanks, Karen

    1. Thank Karen! I haven't done anything to my cover. It's still the original dictionary cover. Sometimes I decorate my covers and sometimes I don't. If I do, I usually do it after I've finished the book. The class I took from Hope was "To the Letter". Thanks for visiting my blog. :)

  3. OMG, Mary!! I love it all, but my particular favorites are: your page about you - I share many of those characteristics, the doodle your sister drew - spectacular, and the page with the color names - yes!! So glad when you share your work!

  4. GEEZ, Jane!! I really like everything, however my personal specific faves tend to be: your own web page regarding a person -- We reveal a lot of those features, the actual doodle your own sibling came -- magnificent, and also the web page using the colour titles -- indeed!! Therefore happy whenever you reveal your projects!

  12. I love viewing your pages. They feel peaceful even if life wasn't exactly that way!
You tie everything together so well. On week 10, that blue color is wonderful! Can you name it? Also, thanks for the tip on Hope"s lettering course. I signed up for it!

    1. Rene, if you are talking about the blue color behind the word "March" on the week 10 page, that is actually masking tape form Scotch brands. Thank you for your comments!

  15. I love that each page flows even though they contain a wide variety of challenges. That can often turn out stilted and disorganized. How were you able to put the holes in the book covers? Idk if my hands or standard paper puncher could do the job. Thanks! Jen

    1. Jen, I use a Crop-A-Dile II Big Bite to punch holes in book covers. It is heavy duty and easy on the hands. Thanks for visiting my site!
