A Little Bit of Art

I have been focusing on writing devotions for the next few months of Take Me Deeper for the His Kingdom Come community. What I have noticed in this new chapter in my life is that when I am putting my energy into writing it usually uses up most of my creative energy. So my art journaling pages have been leaning toward simplicity lately. Join us in Take Me Deeper in April as we look at living the Resurrection Life. We will also be beginning our first HKC book study in May with the book "A Creative Call" by Janice Elsheimer. You can learn more about the book study in this blog post.

Journey to the Cross

Our Take Me Deeper devotions for the month of March have been taking us through Lent on a Journey to the cross of Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. For week 3 of March I chose to take a mixed media background and place a cross on it that was made from painted paper.

I then lettered the words from the hymn Nothing But the Blood over the mixed media background.

My theme this month seems to be simple techniques. I guess that's where I am right now. :)

I took kids up to Youth Haven Ranch last weekend and came back with a nasty chest cold. That has kept me pretty low key this week. Today we are off on our staff retreat. I am already looking forward to next weekend which has very limited activity planned.

The thing that has me the most excited today is the fact that it is the first day of Spring! We have had mild temperatures the past week and sunshine - I'm basking in it! This is my favorite season! I love to see how everything transforms from winter to Spring and to witness the new signs of change and growth that each day brings.

May you each have a great weekend and may your eyes be open to the daily changes in the world around us as Spring ushers us into a new season!

March Take Me Deeper

The theme for the Take Me Deeper project in the His Kingdom Come community is Journey to the Cross and chronicles some of the journey through the Lenten season leading us to Easter. So far this month I've kept my art pretty simple and have just connected with a verse form each week's devotions.

Welcome March!

"When March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb."

I sure hope this saying is true! Three days into March and we've had a small snow storm and now snow and freezing rain. February was one of the coldest on record. I'm so ready for Spring!

We are now 2 full months into the year and the Take Me Deeper weekly faith art project in the His Kingdom Come community. That means that next Friday we'll begin a new monthly theme for our devotions. And Sunday a new set of prompts for our word was posted on the Logos365 page. The HKC foundation team launched its first collaborative class this past Saturday, Faithart 101. We each took an area of the techniques we use in faith art and provided videos and written tutorials and gave examples of our art and our process. I took on the area of Bible study techniques, teaching some inductive style study techniques and how to use online Bible study tools. I also shared some of my art process and tips AND I gave a mini tutorial on my hand-lettering (a frequent request). You can join the class anytime and you can take one of them or all of them. Here are a few sneak peeks at my class:

This last photo is a Scripture quote I made for a slide in my class video so I glued it onto a page in my TMD journal.

February was a busy month with deadlines for the class and future TMD devotions and my father-in-law has had health problems which have required all of us to pitch in. Last week this little one turned 2. She is the first of our God-grand children that we've know since birth. Her family has been a part of our life for almost 7 years and they are such a blessing to us. Enjoy your week!
