Collage Play

I have numerous art mediums that I enjoy: painting, lettering, watercolor, photography, etc. It is the use of multiple art mediums and combining them that makes art journaling so appealing to me. It sure keeps things from getting boring!

I think, however, that collage is probably one of my favorite art mediums. I really can get lost in adhering paper pieces to a page! This summer I found an old atlas at a book sale that has an incredible color palette, so I made some collage backgrounds using the map pages. Here are a few of the pages I have been playing with:

No map paper on this one.

I then added another of my favorite mediums - letters cut from painted papers. I usually just take photos of my art with my camera and edit in PSE, but I have read on some blogs that people also scan their art. So I tried that with the same art piece to see the difference.

The scan definitely turned out much better and I like that I can fill the full frame with the photo. I will say that I took my photo in early morning when the natural light is not the best in my room. I'll have to try my experiment again with afternoon light and see the difference.

That's it for me today. What's your favorite art medium for play?

30 Day Blogging Challenge day 5.

  1. Wow the scan is much brighter over the picture. I have never scanned.

I make atc's and have a kids group that also make them. I have done collage on them. You made beautiful art; I don't know which one I like more.

  2. I love maps as you well know. I love what you have done on these pages, particularly the sunburst. I may have ot give that a go

  3. Oh Mary! This star burst is the coolest! Love your elegant choice of papers! :)

  4. Wow. You really take collage over the top. I love your inventive usages of it.

    1. Thanks Teresa! Collage can become somewhat of an obsession!

  5. Great pages, Mary. I've scanned pages before, but never felt like the color was accurate. Did you have this problem? I have to sometimes wait till the morning to take photos of my pages and put them by a window I almost always tweak them in editing on my phone as well. I love collage too, but don't yet feel like I've mastered it. Your pages are beautiful as usual.
