Advent Day 17 ~ Holy

Today's word is holy.

"Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.
Remember the wonders he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced."
Psalm 105:1-5

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
Isaiah 6:3

It seems that each year a different Christmas carol impacts me as my "favorite" for the season. This year that carol is "O Holy Night". I was 28 when I made the decision to give my life to Christ and follow Him as my Savior and Lord. It happened in November. I remember that I just could not get enough of reading the Bible. Everything I read seemed so new and felt like the words held life for me. I still feel that way 28 years later. The other thing I remember was during the Christmas season that year, 28 years ago, the Christmas carols I had known all my life now had new meaning to me. They held so much truth and depth to them, and I wondered how I had never seen it before!

O Holy Night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

"A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices" - It seems overwhelmingly weary these past few months, with multiple tragic hurricanes and fires raging out of control; tragedies in Charlottesville and Las Vegas, just to name a few, where the evil actions of men have taken life and caused much pain and suffering; when division seems to rule in our nation and even internationally; where hate seems to triumph over love. The times have seemed dark and overwhelming and our weary souls need a thrill of hope to rejoice in.

Fall on your knees

Oh hear the angel voices

Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming

With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand

So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend

Truly He taught us to love one another

His law is love and His gospel is peace

Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name!

As we are reminded this Advent season that the Savior that has come, we fall on our knees and look to a Holy God who brings us hope and life in the person of His Son. His law is love and His gospel is peace - Let all within us praise His holy name!
